Lamentations 3, 22 through 24. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end.

They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. Welcome to the Bridgeway Christian Church Daily Advent Devotional for Saturday, December 14th.

My name is Chris, and I serve with my wife, Heidi, as community group leaders at Bridgeway. Today, I’m going to talk about peace for an anxious heart. As we journey through the year of opportunity, it’s essential to rethink how we approach uncertainty.

In the Book of Lamentations, we find a profound reminder that even during our most challenging moments, God’s steadfast love and mercies are unfailing. This passage encourages us to reflect on the nature of uncertainty, not as something to fear, but as a chance for growth and transformation. Uncertainty often breeds anxiety because it confronts us with our limitations.

We become acutely aware of our human frailty and our inability to control every outcome. This awareness can amplify our fears about what lies ahead. However, what if we chose to view uncertainty differently? Instead of a daunting wall, we can see it as fertile ground for opportunities.

In times of ambiguity, God can work in ways we may never have imagined. This is where faith truly ignites. Embracing uncertainty can be like a springboard that propels us into new possibilities, allowing us to trust God more deeply.

Consider the idea that uncertainty is not an obstacle, but rather a gateway. It invites us to step outside our comfort zones, to lean into God’s plan, and to explore paths we might have never considered. Each moment of doubt could be a stepping stone toward a breakthrough.

If we open our hearts and minds to the unknown, trusting that God’s greatness surpasses our limitations, we may discover opportunities that enrich our lives in ways we could never foresee. Anxiety often creeps in when we feel the heavy burden of uncertainty. In those moments, we can find solace in this promise of new mercies each morning.

This divine assurance calls us to release our needs for control. Instead of letting fear dictate our choices, we can embrace the freedom that comes from stepping into new opportunities, confident that God’s grace will equip us for every challenge. Think of the moments in your life where uncertainty has led to unexpected blessings.

Perhaps a job change, a move to a new city, or the decision to pursue a passion project. Each of these instances may have started with fear, but unfolded into beautiful opportunities. By allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, we open the door for God to move in extraordinary ways.

See, God is unchanging. He is the same today as He was yesterday. If we rely solely on our own strength and understanding, we may miss the miracles unfolding around us.

Each challenge can be an opportunity to witness God’s handiwork, shaping our lives in ways that reflect His glory. As we reflect on this, let’s challenge ourselves to identify one area of our lives where uncertainty looms. What if we intentionally lean into that uncertainty? What if we prayed for God’s guidance and courage to move forward, trusting that He has a plan? This shift in perspective can be transformative, allowing us to experience peace amidst the chaos.

Lord, thank you for your unwavering love and mercy. Help me to see uncertainty not as a burden, but as a springboard into new opportunities. Teach me to trust in your faithfulness, knowing that you are at work in every situation.

May I embrace the unknown with courage and anticipation, recognizing that each day brings new mercies and possibilities. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
