“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)
When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, we recognize that he created a way for us to be in relationship with the Father, no longer needing to offer animal sacrifices for our sin. His blood was enough to cover all who believed. When I think of all Jesus endured to atone for our sins and secure our salvation, when I think of how he humbled himself to be a man, died an excruciatingly painful death on the cross, and then defeated death by coming back to life, I want to take advantage of every last drop of blood that he shed. It would be quite extravagant if salvation alone was secured by his pain, death, and resurrection. But there is so much more. I want to take full advantage of every possible benefit his suffering paid for. An additional benefit of being a Christ follower is that his death paid for our healing as well.
In Matthew 6:10, Jesus prays, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” In the Kingdom of God, there is no sickness. We know it is God’s will to heal because it was what Jesus did all throughout his ministry. If Jesus asked for what happens in heaven to happen on earth, that means we don’t have to wait until we’re in heaven to be healed. It may not be in the way or time we want, but we can trust God to hear and answer our prayers. Jesus showed us and taught us to walk in our inheritance here on earth today. Jesus consistently modeled the destruction of sin, death, and the power of the devil. Wherever he went, he distributed love and hope through miracles and healing. The point of healing now is to reveal the Father and give glory to his name. Jesus brought with him an abundant life and multiplied that abundance wherever he went. When we give an earthly inheritance, it is limited. There is a point where it runs out. But the inheritance Jesus paid for never runs out. There is not a limited supply of healing and miracles. Just like there is salvation for everyone who believes, there is the power to heal.
Listening Prayer:
Ask the Holy Spirit to highlight any areas in you he wants to heal. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind someone he wants to heal. Pray as the Holy Spirit directs.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for the sacrifices you made so we can have an abundant life in you. Thank you that you have made the provision to be healed “on earth as it is in heaven”. I want to experience and walk in everything you died for. Use me to be a vessel to bring healing to others. Teach me to walk in your power and authority. Help me to recognize your voice, when you want me to pray for people to receive healing. Take my mustard seed of faith and use it to move mountains. Lord, I too need a touch from you. Heal me now, physically, mentally and emotionally, and spiritually. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
