Psalm 36:5,7,9
“Your lovingkindness, O Lord, reaches to the heavens,
Your faithfulness to the skies
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
How priceless is Your lovingkindness, O God!
The children of men find refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.”
Adoration and Thanksgiving – the place to begin. Pause for a moment to quiet the noise around you. Breathe in deeply and exhale slowly. Breathe in and imagine the presence of God right there near you. Slowly exhale and breathe out the prayer, “I adore you.”
Who is our God? He is our Healer, our Helper, the Mighty King. He is the Ruler of nations and a Warrior. He is the Prince of peace. The Holy and Anointed One. He is joy, and peace, and life. He is the Father to the fatherless, a husband to the widow. He is our Helper in times of trouble. Speak out who God is to you.
A seminary professor challenged his class to spend a week praying only prayers of Adoration. The assignment proved to be difficult because the students realized their prayers were mostly filled with asking and petitioning the Lord. Today, we challenge you in the same way. Solely, pray prayers of adoration & thanksgiving. Be reminded of God in the nature you see around you and the evidence of His hand. Take one day not to ASK Him to do anything, but rather praise Him all day long.
Gratitude is not just a practice for November. It is an important discipline, especially for followers of Jesus. Gratitude is seeing what you have, instead of what you don’t. May we mature in our prayer lives by not just asking, but thanking and adoring our God. Thank Him for who He is, thank Him for what He’s done, thank Him for what you have, and notice what happens to your soul. We are made to worship Him and as we do, our lives are filled with peace and joy. We remind ourselves that He is in control. He is able. He is strong. He is faithful. He is the God of generations.
Listening Prayer:
Remind me, O Lord, of your amazing characteristics. Quiet my requests so that I can merely worship you with adoration and Thanksgiving. Bring to mind 10,000 reasons for my soul to sing.
Prayer:
I adore you, Oh Lord, for who you are. You are faithful, loving, and strong. For generations, people have relied on you, and I join in that choir of voices. You are loving. You are righteous and strong. You are our refuge. You are light and life and all that is good. You are our strong tower, our defender, our Father, our friend, our Savior, our Healer, and our God. I praise you and thank you for all that you are, for all you have done, and for all you have given me. Thank you for all the good gifts you have placed in my life. Thank you for providing for my every need. Thank you for the people you’ve given me to do life with. My heart overflows with gratitude. You are worthy of all my praise. Amen!
