Winter Session
General Classes Session 1:
Becoming a Creator of Community
Facilitators: Pastor Matt Bach and Heather Johnson
Description: Practices are at the heart of gospel communities; they are the ordinary and daily things people do together. We usually don’t notice these practices when they are functioning well, but we sure know when they have failed. Then life with people becomes frustrating and trying. Join us in learning and experiencing some of the spiritual practices that sustain and cultivate community: hospitality, truth-telling, promise-keeping, gratitude, service and purpose. See how God can make community deeply compelling once again.

As believers, we are called to be the hands and feet of Christ, and extend His extravagant love to a broken world. Based on the book of Luke, this study examines the very heartbeat of our Savior, and explores how Jesus connected with hurting people in an authentic and powerful way.

Trustworthy: A Study of 1 & 2 Kings
by Lysa TerKeurst
Facilitator: Heidi Lawrence
Description: When hard times come and it seems God is deviating from the plan we assume our life should follow, we’re much more likely to want to tame God, not trust Him. It’s then that we begin to press into our ways and our own timing. No human can carry the weight of being their own god, but so many of us try. In this study of 1 & 2 Kings, join Lysa TerKeurst in Israel as she honestly reveals the places of distrust in her own heart while exploring the deeply personal applicable Scriptures that will teach us how to truly trust God.

Bridging the Gap: Carrying the Heart of God into Controversial Conversations
Facilitated by the author: Joanna Thomas
Description: Today, God’s church—the physical representation of Jesus—is perceived in much the same way as the Pharisees of Jesus’ day, the group He most often opposed. The church’s failure to represent Jesus well has left unbelievers, and even other Christians, with skewed or outright false ideas of who God is and what His truth says. Through the use of several divisive and contentious social issues, the author explores the heart of God underneath His Word and presents it as a mirror to the church to expose the log in its own eye, and as a lens through which others can explore and examine the truth of God and all that they have believed about Christianity.

Hosea
by Jennifer Rothschild
Facilitator: Sheri Woods and Elaine Gazzolo
Description: The Book of Hosea is a deeply personal and passionate love story, yet it’s a difficult story. As an account full of harsh judgment unfolds, we find in its midst a rare gem: the truest and purest of loves. Hosea, an old-testament prophet, preached his own life message using his marriage as the sermon illustration. This study of Hosea looks deeply at that message. You’ll be guided to understand, but more especially to apply, the message of the prophet of love. Hosea showers us with hope and points to the coming of the promised Messiah. Be amazed by the love of Hosea for his wayward spouse—and more amazed by the unfailing love of God for His wayward people.
